Social Lines

Research

After our research, we focused on the different ways of living in Napoli. We detected the different areas according to the value of the properties. We documented 4 examples of homes from each area to make a comparison. The cheapest house on our list is located in San Carlo All’ Arena. It is 65 square meters and costs 160.000 €. The next house is in Fuorigrotta it’s 107 square meters and costs 295.000 €. Then we found a house in Vomero 111 square meters which costs 500.000 €. Finally, in the most expensive area, Posillipo is a villa of 519 square meters which costs 4 million euros. The conclusion is that the value of the property depends more on the area in which the buildings are located than on the quality of their construction. We made use of this research to come up with a different way of living.

Proposal

We try to introduce a new way of living in the Mediterranean. Our idea is a complex of social housing. The buildings are placed on top of the 3 existing piers and are extended back into the city. The program is housing and commercial hubs. There are different ways to access to them. On foot, by car, by train and all these connect to a bus. The network inside the complex. The buildings connect with each other with bridges that go through the industrial remains. The direction of the buildings create a new condition along the coast while preserving the visual contact between the city and the sea. The double height apartments are placed on the left and right side, leaving a central, open, linear zone for circulation. The industrial remains coexist with our proposal. In the new Napolitan way of living, traditional elements are brought inside.
